Standard coaster size is 4x4" – and with good reason.

Some bar or drink coasters are square, others are round, but both options have a typical 4×4 inch size. This is the ideal shape for most standard coaster as it is large enough to hold most mugs and glasses. Therefore, it shouldn’t matter what guests order from a bar, or on a hotel room service. Either way, the beverage holder sits neatly on the surface. A 4 inch diameter means that there isn’t any risk of glasses tipping over the edge, but it isn’t too large either. As a result, many printers find that this 4×4 option is their most popular. Yet, there are alternatives if required.

Drink coaster sizes from Alfred Mank offer more choice to clients

There is a coaster size that many manufacturers like to use as a standard. Consumers buying coasters for the home have probably never considered the measurements of these items. They just focus on the design and possibly the durability of the material. However, hotels, bars and others in the hospitality industry need a better idea of dimensions when ordering products from suppliers. This is usually a bulk-buy situation, so size is important. Some will want to stick with the tried and tested approach. Others may decided to go bigger or smaller.

The size is a great place to start, but not the only option

Smaller coasters of 3×3 or 2×2 can make a big difference in the look and purpose of the product. These items are a great way of added a little elegance to a bar or drinks service. 3 inches might not be that big a difference, but these paper coasters immediately look smaller and daintier than something found at home. The downside is that not all glasses and cups will fit. But, they are a great choice for more delicate champagne flutes, espresso mugs and other high-end drinks. This little difference in size could make a big impression. Clients are also assured that the quality of the printing wont diminish on a smaller size. The high definition flexoprinting means clear logos and establishment names on the smallest items.

A 6×6 inch coaster might be a little more practical for those that want a novelty coaster with a strong design. This one is clearly bigger than the average, but wont take up too much space. This slightly larger size is also perfect for the embossed letterpress printing technique used on many of our products.

By comparison, a 10×10 inches coaster can sound a little excessive. But a larger drink coaster size might help with events and marketing. These over-sized coasters can look great depending on the venue and the situation. Most coasters are little more than a convenience with a little bit of branding. Larger coasters provide an opportunity for bigger designs and slogans. This can help to enhance marketing for a new club night, a new drink or any other theme. There is also a practical side to this option as a large coaster for large pitchers.

Big or small, typical or round – quality is key

At Alfred Mank we offer a few different size and material options to our clients. This wide range means that hotels and bars can create a fun selection of different coaster for different needs. Yet, the consistency in the printing and paper quality provides a sense of uniformity. Brands can place the same design and slogan on all items with the same effect. Bulk buying thousands of 4×4 paper coasters is fine in the right situation. But, it isn’t the only option. In the end, coaster size does matter so consider your measurements before you place an order.
